I, like every other person on earth right now, love Lady Gaga- I think she is a superstar artist and risk taking fashionista; however, was this risk too much? Fashionistas everywhere have been in shock and awe of Lady Gaga's choice to recently stud/bedazzle her Hermes Birkin bag.
For those of you who do not know the history of this brand, Hermes is the timelessly chic leather company that produces a purse called the Birkin, which is the most sought after symbol of luxury for fashionistas all around the globe (there are wait lists sometimes of over a year to purchase one). For this specific worshipped purse, prices run around and upwards of the $10,000 range.
This is not the first time that Lady Gaga has used a Birkin bag as a piece of art... Back in April of this year Gaga was seen at a Tokyo airport carrying a white Hermes Birkin with "I love little monster, Tokyo love" written in Japanese in black marker across the front of the bag. Gaga posted more photos of the Birkin to her Twitter account which also showed the back covered entirely with random writings and scribbles in Japanese.
Now be it Lady Gaga, or anyone at all, the thought of defacing (or making art?) out of a Birkin makes me absolutely cringe, and I know I do not stand alone in this feeling. But at the same time I respect Gaga's right to do whatever she wants to her Birkin bags because they are hers and she definitely earned them.
What do you think?? Destroyed, Artistic, Interesting or Cringe-worthy?
Love the studs, but the jury's still out on Shapried white one! Maybe if she had done something more street art-like, like graffiti style design, less Japanese 6 year old learning to write, I may have liked it more. But I do LOVE those studs!
